Played on an 8×8 checkerboard, the objective is simple but the strategy runs deep: you must capture all of your opponent’s pieces or trap them so they cannot make a legal move. Every match is a test of foresight. You start by moving your pieces forward diagonally, trading captures and vying for control of the center of the board. Controls
Play using only your mouse or touchscreen:
- Select a piece: Click or tap on the piece you want to move. Valid destinations will often be highlighted.
- Move: Click or tap an empty diagonal square to place your piece.
- Jump: To capture an opponent’s piece, click the empty square immediately behind it when it is adjacent to your piece.
Tips that actually help
- Control the center: Pieces on the edges are safe from being jumped, but they also limit your own mobility. Keep a strong presence in the middle four columns to dictate the flow of the game.
- Keep your back row intact: Do not move the pieces on your very back row until absolutely necessary. As long as they are there, your opponent cannot crown any kings.
- Look for the two-for-one: Sometimes it is worth sacrificing one of your pieces to force your opponent into a position where you can jump two or more of theirs on your next turn.
- Move in pairs: A piece supported by another piece diagonally behind it cannot be jumped. Advance your pieces together in a solid formation rather than sending lone pieces forward.
