FreeCell is a beloved classic solitaire variant that rewards careful planning over sheer luck. Unlike standard Klondike solitaire, all 52 cards are dealt face-up at the start, meaning every game is a puzzle with perfect information. Your goal is to move all the cards into four foundation piles, organized by suit from Ace to King.

The challenge comes from maneuvering the cards across eight tableau columns. You can only build columns downward in alternating colors. To untangle the layout, you have access to four “free cells”—temporary holding spots that can store exactly one card each. Managing these open cells is the entire key to the game, as the number of empty free cells dictates how many cards you can move at once.

Controls

Play entirely with your mouse or touchscreen. Click and drag a card or a valid stack of cards to move them between the tableau columns, free cells, and foundation piles. You can also single-click a card to send it to the most logical available spot automatically.

Tips that actually help

  • Hoard your free cells: It’s tempting to throw cards into the free cells immediately, but try to keep them empty as long as possible. An empty free cell drastically increases your mobility around the board.
  • Clear columns quickly: Emptying an entire tableau column is a game-changer. An empty column acts as a super-powered free cell, letting you temporarily store whole stacks of cards to reach the ones buried underneath.
  • Look for the Aces: At the very start of the deal, locate all four Aces. Your first major moves should be geared toward freeing them up, as you cannot begin building your foundation piles without them.
