Fireboy & Watergirl 2: Light Temple is a cooperative puzzle platformer where two players work together to escape a maze of ancient traps. The central mechanic revolves around moving light beams using mirrors to trigger light sensors, which open heavy stone doors and activate moving platforms. You control two distinct characters: Fireboy, who can safely walk through lava but dies in water pools, and Watergirl, who wades through water but perishes in fire. Both must avoid the deadly green ooze scattered throughout the levels.
A typical level requires careful coordination rather than fast reflexes. You and a friend (or just yourself, controlling both sides of the keyboard) will constantly swap roles, stepping on buttons to hold doors open for each other, pushing blocks to block dangerous lasers, and collecting elemental diamonds along the way. The pacing is thoughtful, demanding logic and spatial awareness to figure out the correct sequence of actions before making a move.

Tips for the Light Temple
- Examine the light beams first: Before rushing in, trace the path of the light sensors. Figure out which mirrors need to be pushed into place to open the exit doors.
- Don’t get trapped by boxes: Pay attention to where you push stone blocks. Pushing a box against a wall can make it impossible to pull back, forcing you to restart the level.
- Use teamwork on switches: Many puzzles require one character to hold down a button while the other navigates a newly opened path. Take turns helping each other progress.
- Solo play is possible: While designed for two players, the game is entirely playable alone by controlling one character at a time, though it requires patience and hand coordination.
