Retro Highway is a fast-paced, 16-bit arcade motorcycle racing game that heavily draws inspiration from classics like Hang-On. You weave through dense traffic on an endless highway, trying to survive as long as possible while racking up a massive high score. The pixel-art aesthetics and chiptune soundtrack perfectly capture the feel of an old-school arcade cabinet, but the smooth gameplay and modern progression mechanics keep the experience fresh.

Each run is about balancing risk and reward. Driving safely will keep you alive, but grazing past other vehicles at high speeds earns you near-miss bonuses and fills your nitro gauge. As you collect coins scattered across the road, you can unlock new bikes with different handling stats and travel to entirely new environments, ranging from sunny coastal roads to futuristic cityscapes.

Controls

  • A / D or Left / Right Arrows: Steer left and right
  • W or Up Arrow or Space: Activate nitro boost (when the gauge is filled)

Tips for Surviving Longer

  • Embrace the near miss: Passing as close to other cars as possible is essential. Not only does it multiply your score, but it’s the only way to quickly refill your nitro boost gauge for tight escapes.
  • Watch for brake lights: Traffic isn’t entirely static. Pay attention to the vehicles ahead of you—if you see brake lights or turn signals, they are about to change lanes or slow down, giving you a split second to react.
  • Hit the ramps: Use the ramp trucks to launch your bike into the air. While airborne, you are completely safe from collisions and can easily bypass heavily congested sections of the highway.
