Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) puts you in the shoes of a newly hired night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a family restaurant with a dark secret. The animatronic mascots that entertain children during the day are allowed to roam free at night, and they have a habit of wandering toward your security office. Armed only with a network of security cameras, two metal doors, and a limited supply of electricity, you have to survive your shift from midnight to 6 AM.

A session is a tense balancing act of power management and situational awareness. You sit completely stationary, checking the camera feeds to track the animatronics as they move closer. Every time you flip up the monitor, turn on a hallway light, or slam a door shut, you drain your finite power reserve. If the power runs out, the lights go dark, the doors fly open, and survival becomes entirely a matter of luck. The game strips away your ability to fight or run, leaving you with nothing but your own panic and a draining battery percentage.

Controls

  • Mouse: Move the cursor to the bottom of the screen to pull up the camera monitor, or to the sides of the office to look left and right.
  • Left Click: Interact with the door and light buttons, or select different camera feeds.

Tips for Surviving the Night

  • Don’t waste power on cameras: You don’t need to track every animatronic perfectly. The most important thing is knowing when they are right outside your doors. Only use the cameras to keep an eye on Foxy in Pirate Cove.
  • Listen for footsteps: Sound is just as important as the cameras. When Bonnie or Chica move into the blind spots outside your doors, you will hear heavy footsteps. Only check the lights when you hear them approaching.
  • Foxy’s rules: If Foxy is missing from Pirate Cove, immediately close the left door before you check the hallway camera. If you see him sprinting down the hall, you only have a fraction of a second to shut the door.
  • The Freddy strategy: Freddy moves through the right side of the building and is much harder to spot on the cameras. Keep track of his laughs to know how close he is getting to your right door.
