Free Mahjong is a classic tile-matching puzzle game that tests your observation skills and strategy. Played with a standard set of 144 Mahjong tiles, your goal is to clear the entire board by finding and matching identical pairs. Since the tiles are stacked in complex layouts, every move matters—removing one pair might open up new opportunities or block you from reaching crucial tiles underneath.

A session of Mahjong Solitaire is quiet and deliberate, making it perfect for unwinding while still keeping your mind sharp. The challenge lies in looking ahead and prioritizing which pairs to clear first, rather than rushing through the matches. There are no time limits to worry about, so you can take your time scanning the intricate layers of the board.

Controls

The game relies entirely on simple point-and-click or touch controls.

  • Select Tile: Click or tap on any “free” tile to highlight it. A tile is considered free if it has no other tile covering it and is open on either its left or right side.
  • Match: Click or tap a second matching free tile to remove both from the board.

Tips for Clearing the Board

  • Focus on high stacks first: Always try to make matches that remove tiles from the tallest piles. Breaking down thick layers early prevents you from getting stuck later in the game.
  • Don’t jump at every match: If you see a pair of identical tiles, check if there is a third matching tile available on the board. You want to remove the two tiles that will uncover the most hidden pieces underneath.
  • Prioritize the center: Clearing tiles from the long rows on the edges is often less helpful than digging into the dense center blocks. Try to dismantle the central structure whenever possible.
