Sudoku
Sudoku is a classic logic-based number puzzle that demands focus and rewards careful deduction. The goal is simple in theory: fill a 9×9 grid so that every column, every row, and every 3×3 subgrid contains the digits 1 through 9 exactly once. You start with a partially filled board, and every number you place correctly opens the door to figuring out the next one.
What makes it so gripping is the purely logical nature of the challenge. There is no guessing required, and no math involved—it is entirely about pattern recognition and process of elimination. A session starts slowly as you scan for obvious placements, but the pace accelerates as the board fills up and the remaining missing numbers become clear. It is an excellent brain exercise that can be played entirely in your web browser with nothing to download.
Controls
- Mouse / Touch: Click or tap a cell to select it, then choose a number from the on-screen interface to fill it in.
- Keyboard: Use the arrow keys to navigate the grid and press the number keys (1-9) to directly input your answer.
Tips that actually help
- Scan the board for clusters: Start by looking for numbers that are already well-represented on the board. If there are four 7s, tracing their rows and columns will quickly reveal where the missing 7s have to go.
- Rely on pencil marks (notes): When you know a cell can only be one of two numbers, use the game’s note feature to mark them down. This clears your working memory and makes advanced logical deductions possible.
- Never guess: If you find yourself guessing, you will almost certainly make a mistake that breaks the puzzle later on. There is always a logical next step to find.
