Minesweeper is the timeless logic puzzle that turns a simple grid into a tense game of deduction. Every square you click either reveals a safe number or a hidden mine, and one wrong move ends the round instantly. Your goal is to clear the entire board without detonating anything, relying on the numbers to tell you exactly how many explosives are touching that specific tile.

A typical session starts with a lucky click in the dark, hoping to open up a large empty space. From there, it becomes a strict test of reasoning. You’ll carefully flag the squares you know are dangerous and cautiously click the ones you know are safe, slowly peeling back the board until only the mines remain.

Controls

  • Left Click: Reveal a tile.
  • Right Click: Place or remove a flag on a suspected mine.
  • Left + Right Click (Chording): Click both buttons simultaneously on a revealed number. If you’ve already flagged the correct amount of surrounding mines, this instantly reveals all other adjacent tiles.

Tips that actually help

  • Start in the corners: The corners are usually the safest places to get your first large opening. If you get stuck early, try clicking the remaining corners.
  • Learn the 1-2-1 pattern: If you see the numbers 1, 2, and 1 in a straight line against a flat wall of unrevealed tiles, the mines are always touching the 1s, and the tile touching the 2 is safe.
  • Use chording to save time: Once you are confident in your flag placement, using both mouse buttons on a numbered tile clears the surrounding area much faster than clicking individual squares.
  • Never guess unless forced: There is almost always a logical next move. If you’re stuck, step back and look at how the numbers overlap—guessing is a last resort.
