Welcome to the night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Five Nights at Freddy’s is a tense survival horror game where you play as a newly hired security guard tasked with watching over the restaurant’s animatronic mascots. While they sing and entertain children during the day, they are allowed to roam the building on their own at night. You are confined to your small security office, armed with nothing but a network of security cameras, two hallway lights, and a pair of heavy steel doors.
The challenge lies in resource management and keen observation. You must survive from 12 AM to 6 AM, but every action you take—checking cameras, flicking on the lights, or shutting the doors—drains your limited power supply. If your power meter hits zero before the night is over, the lights go out, the doors fly open, and you are left completely defenseless in the dark. It is a stressful balancing act of tracking the animatronics’ movements and only using your defenses when absolutely necessary.
Controls
The game is played entirely with the mouse as a point-and-click experience.
- Mouse Movement: Look around the security office by panning left and right.
- Left Click: Interact with the camera monitor panel, hallway light switches, and door control buttons.
Tips for Surviving the Night
- Listen closely: Audio cues are just as important as the cameras. Footsteps, deep laughs, and pots clanging in the kitchen all give away animatronic positions without you needing to waste power checking the monitor.
- Don’t overuse the cameras: Staring at the monitor drains power quickly. Only check the cameras to keep Foxy in Pirate Cove or to see if Freddy is getting close. For Bonnie and Chica, the hallway lights are a much more efficient way to check if they are directly outside your doors.
- Foxy needs attention: Keep an eye on Pirate Cove (Camera 1C). If you don’t check on Foxy frequently enough, he will leave his stage and sprint down the West Hall. If he is missing from the camera, immediately close the left door before looking at the hallway camera.
